Sometimes you get a surprising surprise in life, even when you are building a website.

My website is built with WordPress (an open system used by 75 million websites), and on top of that an “Avada” theme, which makes the entire management of such a website much easier  so to speak).

In that environment you can upload thousands of “plug-ins” to improve or change certain aspects of your website, for example limiting the size of your images, or improving the loading speed of your website. For the latter I recently started using Autoptimize, the stuff is already used more than a million times throughout the world.

I had a little problem with it, asked for an explanation, got it by return mail, and in a click and a clack it was solved. Super. It turned out that the developer of that plug-in is a Flemish from Lokeren (Belgium).

Most of those plugins are free, but you can always make a small donation if you want, many little ones make a big one. I do that every now and then, but in this case I got the following surprising message:

Impressive isn’t it? 🙂

DownUnder LollyPop Store https://www.yesiwood.be/portfolio-items/downunder-lollypop-store/ Thu, 28 May 2015 18:29:11 +0000 https://www.yesiwood.be/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=7951 You obviously know all that stuff about the Internet, and virtual business, etc.

I respectfully disagree. When touring early 2015 through South Australia, I was looking for some special souvenirs.
Guess what, it starts with “W”.

So, I found George, and his Gorgeous collection of vintage Australian pen blanks. And, rather than going the virtual road, we arranged a face-to-face visit at his backyard shop in the neighbourhood of Mount Compass, close to Adelaide.

A feast for the eye, indulging on all the 82 wood species he collected with love and attention. Amaaazing ( that is truly Aussie) to see such an international business work in realtime.

You can find George’ business at www.georges-bits-of-timber.com. Highly recommended.

But sometimes, you’re forced to, like in case of the woodturning lathes of Wivamac. You see them everywhere in Europe in the workshops of serious woodturners. And it is them who brag about their Belgian stuff. Made in Belgium, with pride

This US magazine has opened me my woodworker’s eyes. It has, and still is, an incredible source of inspiration and reference, including its twenty-odd years of archives, representing about 25.000 pages…. I hope I am halfway through them.

There is an excellent website, which is mandatory visiting for any serious woodworker.

… and did you notice the thumb and the index on the picture? 🙂

You will not regret it, except for the time spent gazing at his inventions and contraptions.

For example, take a peek at his marble machine :

Fun, isn’t it?
